Purpose/Objective: Assist Richland Library Ballentine staff in providing library customers with great experiences with art, fiber arts, and other hands on activities.
Location: Richland Library Ballentine (1200 Dutch Fork Road, Irmo, SC 29063)
Reports to: Coordinator of Volunteers for the library department or other staff as designated.
Key responsibilities:
- Support library staff and customers in creating and playing in the Ballentine MakerSpace
- Inform customers of the purpose and resources of the Ballentine MakerSpace
- Greet customers and answer basic information questions about library services and programs, focusing on the services and programs of the Ballentine MakerSpace
• Help staff prepare materials for displays, programs and library events
• Perform general clerical tasks related to materials maintenance and library programming
• Perform other duties as needed
Impact/Goal: Ensuring great customer experiences by increasing the capacity of the library to deliver materials and services in a timely manner. Provide volunteers with the experience in serving the public and bringing entertainment, information, and knowledge to our diverse customers.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 18 years of age
- Have an interest and some experience in the Fine Arts, art creation, and general crafting
- Some previous customer service or related experience in an employment or volunteer setting is preferred
- Ability to understand and follow directions and work independently
- To be responsible and dependable
- Accuracy and patience for detailed work
- Ability to redirect customers not properly engaged in a studio services activity
- To display appropriate behavior and dress for my volunteer position
Time Commitment: Weekly shift on Monday afternoons for three hours (or twice a week for 1.5 hours - flexible)
Training and Support:
- Participate in the Richland Library Volunteer Orientation (mission, purpose, volunteer program, policies, and procedures)
- Participate in an Orientation to the library/department location
- Training from library staff in order to be a successful Customer Experience Assistant volunteer
- Ongoing support provided by the coordinator of volunteers or other identified staff
