Bear Hollow Zoo: Animal Care Intern

Project Description:

Animal Care Interns are responsible for the well being of the animals living in zoos. The job requires a keeper to routinely complete a number of tasks for the animals, such as bathing, feeding and exercising.

  • Prepare Meals
  • Feed Animals
  • Clean Out Enclosures
  • Monitor Health
  • Collect Data
  • Conduct "Keeper Talks" for public or groups.
  • No experience needed. Training provided.
  • Complete at least one legacy project
  • Administrative tasks



  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Preferred area of study: Ecology, Natural Resources, Wildlife, Agricultural Education, Education, or related field
  • Experience with children preferred
  • Must complete 120 hours of service

    • Over a 10 week period (12 hrs/week)
    • Schedule is flexible, but may include weekend work
      • Interns may work more hours and complete the program in less than 10 weeks
      • Must be available for at least 12 hours per week, as a minimum
  • Animal Care Internship is an unpaid position
