Opportunity Details | 2024 Songbird Survey - Deer Creek FWA and Satellites
Opportunity Name:
2024 Songbird Survey - Deer Creek FWA and Satellites |
|
Description:
Come help Deer Creek FWA conduct surveys to monitor songbird populations. Your observations help track bird populations on the property, contributing to future management decisions. Volunteers must have good visual and auditory songbird identification skills to participate and be able to reliably identify eight target species for the survey. Survey routes are available on Deer Creek FWA, Chinook FWA, Wabashiki FWA, and the Wabash River Conservation Area.
Survey instructions: Surveys should be conducted between May 27, 2024 and July 7, 2024. Surveys should be run at least twice but can be run as many times as you wish. Surveys start 1/2 hour before sunrise and must conclude 4 hours after sunrise. Several days should be allowed between surveys and observation points should be run in the opposite direction each time (i.e. from points 1-7 the first day and the next survey, several days later, from points 7-1).
Participants should bring good hiking boots, water, and snacks. Binoculars are highly recommended. Some routes may require the use of a vehicle to travel between observation points.
Volunteers must contact the Deer Creek FWA Office before assisting with this survey. The Deer Creek FWA Office is located at 2001 W CR 600 S, Greencastle, IN 46135 or can be reached at (765) 635-0453.
