What’s this program about?

Our S.T.E.A.M.-based, in-person youth summer camp is designed for children entering 1st - 8th grade and is comprised of two month-long sessions: one in June and another in July. During camp, students are provided with a positive and safe environment to interact with peers while being engaged in science, technology, engineering, art, and math (S.T.E.A.M.) curriculum. Our camp programming also includes components such as social and emotional learning as well as physical education.

How will volunteers help?

Volunteers will be assisting our Youth Education team throughout summer camp in the following ways:

Assist in the planning and facilitating of various small and large group activities.
Assist in the supervision of students to ensure their safety, development, growth, academic/skill achievement, and general well-being.
Work hands on in leading recreational and educational activities.
Guide and ensure the safety of students as they engage in camp activities.
Participate in fun S.T.E.A.M.-based learning and outdoor programs.

Program Schedule:

El Buen hosts two camps during the summer. The first camp occurs during the month of June and the second camp occurs during the month of July.

Our June summer camp session begins on Monday, June 3rd and ends on Thursday, June 27th.

Our July summer camp session begins on Monday, July 8th and ends on Thursday, August 1st.

Both summer camps are four weeks long and programming occurs Monday through Thursday from 9:00am-3:00pm (in-person). During camp, we ensure that volunteers get 15-minute breaks in the morning and in the afternoon, as well as a 30-minute break in between for lunch.

How many days can I volunteer?

Volunteers must commit to volunteering at least one day per week to help us keep consistency in our program. If you choose to do one or more opportunities with El Buen Samaritano, please do not let these opportunities coincide with each other so that you are fully committed to one opportunity.

While volunteers are required to commit to at least one day per week, you are more than welcome to volunteer as many days as possible during the week.

We also ask that volunteers commit to a full summer camp session: June 3rd - June 27th and/or July 8th - August 1st.

*Volunteers can choose to volunteer for the June summer camp, July summer camp, or both.

Requirements:

Volunteers must be 18 years or age or older.

Volunteers must agree for us to run a background check and complete our Safeguarding God’s Children Certification to keep our children safe before beginning to volunteer. Instructions will follow after you apply.

Volunteers must also attend our in-person youth summer camp training/s. If you're planning on volunteering for the June session, training will take place on Monday, June 3rd. If you're planning on volunteering for the July session, training will take place on Monday, July 8th. An invitation to the training/s will follow after you've been placed.

*Spanish-bilingual volunteers are preferred, but not required.
