Opportunity Name:
Feeding Friends

Description:

Many of our patients experience difficulty with eating on their own due to their illness or injury. Meals may have become frustrating and challenging, which may reduce the amount of food they are consuming. This could lead to malnutrition, causing more problems and potentially lengthening their hospital stay.

Our Feeding Friends program is working to change that!  We aim to provide a positive social environment, much like going to a meal with a friend, in which our patients consume their food.

Patients may need help with:

  • Opening packaging
  • Arranging meal on tray within reach
  • Some assistance when tired
  • Full assistance with feeding

Volunteers will be specially trained to feed patients and can only feed those to whom they have been assigned.  Volunteers will not feed patients who are at risk for choking.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner shifts are available.  Please try to commit to at least one meal (preferably 2-4) per week to maintain competency.  Once trained, volunteers will have access to sign up for individual shifts.

Training will be held monthly.
