CSPM School Program Volunteers

Project Description:

The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum is looking for enthusiastic volunteers who enjoy working with 2nd through 5th grade students. Volunteers are trained to lead 25 minute stations that engage students in the museum exhibits and collections. The program is aligned with the Colorado Department of Education's Social Studies academic standards and utilizes best practices in museum education.

  • School programs are offered Tuesdays through Fridays (September-May)
  • Programs begin at 9:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m. or 10:00 a.m. and last 2 to 2.5 hours

Volunteers must complete a CSPM volunteer application, participate in a phone screening and interview, and pass a background check. We require that volunteers commit to a minimum of four months of service. All school program volunteers are required to attend training sessions 2 times a year, but most training will take place shadowing and co-leading programs. Our next required training sessions are scheduled for the week of January 28-31, 2020.

CSPM Volunteers agree to:

  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, dedication, and a positive attitude towards  training, participation in enrichment activities, and service for the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum.
  • Be open and respectful to a diverse set of peers, whether they are members of the public, staff, or other volunteers.
  • Arrive promptly to all scheduled training and service opportunities and to inform a member of the staff as soon as possible if you are going to arrive late or be absent.
