Description:

Purpose/Objective: Assist Richland Library Children’s Room staff in providing library customers with great experiences primarily through the delivery of materials in a timely manner.

 

Location: Children’s Room at Main (Garden Level, 1431 Assembly Street)

 

Reports to: Children’s Room Staff

 

Key Responsibilities:  


  • Ensuring great customer experiences by increasing the capacity of the library to deliver materials and services in a timely manner.
  • Locate and pull materials requested by customers.
  • Help staff prepare materials for displays, programs, and library events.
  • Shelve, shelf read, or shift predetermined areas in need of care.
  • Perform general clerical tasks related to materials maintenance, processing, and programming
  • Greet customers
  • Ensuring great customer experiences by increasing the capacity of the library to deliver materials and services in a timely manner.
  • Provide volunteers with experience in serving the public and bringing entertainment. information, and knowledge to our diverse customers.

Qualifications: 


  • Able to push loaded book carts (35 lbs), stand continuously, stoop, bend and stretch to reach various heights of shelves
  • Be dependable, and able to commit to a weekly schedule for a minimum of six months
  • Ability to understand and follow directions while working independently
  • Organized with an appreciation for accuracy and attention to detail
  • To be responsible and dependable  
  • Possess strong customer service and communication skills
  • Basic ability in operating computers, photocopiers, self-checkout, cataloging, etc.
  • To display appropriate behavior and dress for my volunteer position
  • A willingness to learn, be empathetic, and have a passion for serving the community
  • All ages 11 and older
  • Be a lover of the library!

Time Commitment: Participate in weekly 1-2 hours volunteer shifts June 3- August 2. Seeking volunteers for the following times:

·        Monday morning

·        Tuesday afternoon

·        Wednesday morning

·        Thursday afternoon

·        Friday morning and afternoon

·        Saturday morning and afternoon

 Training/Support:  

·        Participate in the Richland Library Volunteer Orientation (mission, purpose, volunteer program, policies and procedures)·      

·        Participate in an Orientation to Children’s Room department.

·        General orientation on common customer help needs.       

·        Ongoing support provided by the library staff.
