VOLUNTEER POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Volunteer Homeowner Education Instructor opportunity is designed for individuals with a background in real estate, finance, mortgage lending, or a related field, aiming to empower future homeowners through education. This volunteer role involves conducting classes on Homebuyer Education and Money Management, covering vital topics such as the responsibilities of homeownership, credit, debt management, and overall financial literacy. The curriculum is pre-developed, ensuring instructors have a structured guide to teaching these essential skills.

 

Instructors are responsible for engaging participants, issuing certificates upon course completion, and managing class attendance records in coordination with the education coordinator. This position offers a unique opportunity to impart critical knowledge and skills, helping participants navigate the complexities of homeownership and financial management. Ideal candidates will possess strong communication skills and a commitment to fostering community development and financial empowerment among potential and new homeowners. This volunteer role not only contributes significantly to the community’s well-being but also allows individuals to share their expertise in a meaningful and impactful way.

 

 

TASKS

  • Conducting Homebuyer Education and Money Management Classes: Teaching pre-developed curriculum on various topics such as the process and responsibilities of homeownership, managing credit, and handling debt.
  • Engaging and Interacting with Participants: Using strong communication skills to effectively convey information and interact with participants to ensure they understand and can apply the knowledge in real-life scenarios.
  • Issuing Certificates of Completion: Providing participants with certificates upon successfully completing the course, recognizing their efforts and understanding of the material covered.
  • Recording and Submitting Attendance Records: Managing accurate attendance records for each class and submitting these details to the education coordinator to track participation and completion rates.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Background in Finance, Real Estate, or Mortgage Lending: A solid understanding and experience in these fields are crucial to effectively deliver the curriculum. This knowledge ensures the instructor can provide accurate information and answer participants' questions confidently.
  • Strong Communication and Presentation Skills: The ability to convey complex financial concepts in an understandable and engaging manner is key. This includes both verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to use presentation tools effectively.
  • Experience in Educational or Training Environments: Prior experience in teaching, coaching, or facilitating workshops, especially in adult education or financial literacy programs, will enable the volunteer to adapt to different learning styles and engage participants effectively.

 

AVAILABLE DAY(S) & TIME(S)    

Tuesdays: 8:30AN-12PM

Thursdays: 3:30PM-7PM

 

TIME COMMITMENT:
At least two days/classes per month

Ideally one class per week.

 

 

This is a volunteer position at Habitat for Humanity Omaha
