Animal Shelter Foster Family


Project Description:

Foster, give a vulnerable animal a second chance at life! With expert support, veterinary resources and free food, fosters provide loving, temporary homes for Gwinnett Animal Welfare’s most vulnerable residents.


This often includes pet who are:

  • Recovering from illness or injury
  • Pregnant, nursing, newborn or bottle-fed
  • Struggling to trust people
  • Displaced by natural disasters

Volunteer to bring an animal from the shelter into your home to take care of until it can be adopted.  Animals that are fostered are typically too small to be adopted, have a medical condition that needs additional attention, or needs to be socialized. 


All Fosters need to be at least 18-years of age and have approved background check and liability waivers on file prior to being able to Foster.

All Gwinnett County volunteers are required to agree and complete the WAIVER OF LIABILITY AND RELEASE and CONSENT FOR BACKGROUND CHECK forms. Please download and complete the forms below before participating in any volunteer project or event.

This volunteer opportunity is not eligible for court-ordered community service hours.
