Description:

Essential Functions:

  • Support camp as a positive environment that fosters fun, safety and our YMCA values.
  • Model the values and philosophy of Seymour with campers, peers, and staff in a positive and professional manner consistent with the personnel policies and mission of Camp Seymour.
  • Establish positive relationships with other families involved in Camp Seymour programs.
  • Devotion to ensuring the safety and growth of campers.  
  • Be a supportive, constructive member of our camp community actively working to create a positive and quality experience for all campers and staff.
  • Participate in volunteer meetings as required. Participate in trainings as required.
  • Participate in camp focus groups and/or parent panels to support program goals and outcomes that meet the needs of our campers.
  • Support camp fundraising efforts through seeking contributions, developing relationships and/or supporting staff with projects and events
  • Participate in committee work relevant to personal experience (this could be as a parent/participant)
  • Seek help and support with situations that are unfamiliar or need further explanation/training.

 

Pick an Area of Interest and Get Involved

Parent Panel/Focus Group Volunteers:

  • Participate in surveys that support the camp staff in the decision-making process around program, food, facilities, etc.
  • Participate in a camp “Parent Panel” (June 20, 2013) to help the summer staff understand the expectations of parents, when they send their child to camp.
  • Leadership – Help establish community groups willing to participate in surveys.
  • Support post-summer evaluation process for summer camp.
  • Work with staff to develop “Our Commitment to Parents”.

Annual Campaign:

  • Join a campaign team and/or support building teams in our camp community to help raise scholarship dollars to send kids to camp.
  • Set up an online campaigner page (with camp’s support) to help tell camp’s story.
  • Build relationship with folks that would be interested in hearing the stories from camp – share them.
  • Learn more about how the YMCA makes significant impact in your community.

Marketing Committee:

  • Participate in focus groups
  • Bring expertise to the table in areas of social media, print advertising, market segmentation, creative budget-$0 advertising.
  • Help camp pursue “home visit” opportunities and/or getting community members to camp.
  • Serve as part of camp’s promotions team – YMCA branches, community events, etc.

 

Program Volunteer:

  • Support YMCA Camp Seymour programs through hands-on delivery
  • Crafts, Planning, Leadership, Teaching Specialty Classes, Etc.

Additional duties:

  • Model our YMCA values through fun, positive relationships with staff and campers. Seek every opportunity to encourage, motivate and thank fellow volunteers for their work.

  • Incorporate “Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility” into all aspects of the position, to ensure YMCA values are being integrated into our culture and programs.

  • Participate in applicable training and conferences to further personal growth.
  • Minimum age of 20.
  • Prior past camp experience preferred (as camper and/or parent/guardian)
  • Specialized skill set that may benefit YMCA programs.
  • Outstanding ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Integrity, patience, adaptability, sense of humor, enthusiasm, and a commitment to serve youth.
  • YMCA required trainings including Child Abuse Prevention training will be applicable before doing any work with children
