Police Officer Internship Spring 2022

Project Description:

The Gwinnett County Police Department is now accepting internships for the 2022 spring semester.  This is an ideal unpaid internship opportunity for students pursuing an educational observation of the daily duties of a POLICE OFFICER.  Selected candidates will experience first-hand knowledge about the roles of a police officer with the possibilities to observe officers that work in specialized units and in detectives (specialized units and detective units are subject to availability provided by that unit commander and may not be available for observation for internship)

Through multiple ride along assignments with our 6 different police precincts interns will observe officers handling calls for service throughout Gwinnett County.  The intern will be educated on how our officers interact with citizens through traffic stops, calls for service, arrest, and community affairs. Interns will report to the GCPD intern coordinator once a month to go over what they have observed by providing summary reports on their experience.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Student must be enrolled in an accredited college or university
  • Student must be at least 20 years of age on the first day of the internship
  • The internship must be a requirement for course credit
  • Flexible schedule and be able to work the hours provided by your college or university, Monday – Saturday

All Gwinnett County volunteers are required to agree and complete the waiver/release before participating in any volunteer project or event. Email your completed waiver/release and 2022 Spring Internship Application to the GCPD Intern Coordinator for approval.
