Mordecai Docent Volunteer Program


  


Project Description:

Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources is seeking individuals interested in volunteering at Mordecai  Historic Park. The park lies in the heart of downtown Raleigh and is a historical landmark that showcases one of the largest plantations in Wake County and President Andrew Johnson's birthplace.

 

Volunteer Duties:

Volunteer docents will be responsible for giving one hour park tours, that include the historic Mordecai house, outbuildings, and landscape. Volunteer docents should appreciate history and be comfortable working with patrons of all ages. Training will be provided.

 

Volunteer Requirements:

Time commitment is flexible during Mordecai Historic Parks operating hours (Tuesday - Saturday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Sunday, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.). To volunteer, you must be at least 18 years old and complete a volunteer application and background form. 

 

Per department policies, this volunteer opportunity is not to be used towards court-appointed community service hours.
