Elevate your summer with the JUNIOR LEADERS Teen Volunteer Summer Program, supporting the Recreation Division's Summer Camp programs! Dive into a dynamic and enjoyable volunteer experience, blending advanced training with a meaningful service opportunity.

 

Junior Leaders will engage with youth, lead activities and games, and shadow staff. This program is not only a great way to fulfill community service requirements, but it also provides teens with the opportunity to develop job skills. Such skills include: public speaking, customer service, conflict resolution, leadership, adaptability, time management, and more.

 

Please note: The City of Mountain View cannot serve as a Certifying Organization for the The President's Volunteer Service Award.

 

Junior Leaders Program Requirements:

  • Ages 14-17 by June 8, 2024 (no exceptions)
  • Attend mandatory training on Saturday, June 8, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at The View Teen Center (no make up dates)
  • Interest in volunteering with youth
  • Available for at least 1 week (M-F) of service between June 10-August 9.

 

Junior Leaders Program Options:
Staff will try to accommodate your first or second choice of options that you indicate on your application.

  • Camps/Age Groups: Busy Bees/Astro Kids (Ages 3-6), Club Rec Juniors (Ages 6-8), Club Rec Seniors (Ages 8-11), Club Rec Elite (Ages 11-14), H2O Adventures (Water-based camp, Ages 8-11)
  • Locations: All camps are held at Rengstorff Park, with the exception of Club Rec Elite (Ages 11-14), which is held at The View Teen Center.
  • Volunteer Time: All camps require you to be on site from 8:45 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. M-F. There is no camp on Thursday, July 4. 
  • Field Trips and Pool Visits: Junior Leaders volunteering with the Club Rec Juniors (Ages 6-8), Club Rec Seniors (Ages 8-11), Club Rec Elite (Ages 11-14), H2O Adventures (Ages 8-11) camps will be attending once-a-week offsite field trips and pool visits.

 

 

Please follow these steps to apply to and join the Junior Leader Program. If you have any questions, please email TheViewTeenCenter@mountainview.gov

  1. Create a City of Mountain View CERVIS profile.

  2. Join the "Teen Volunteer Summer Program: Junior Leaders" opportunity. Be sure to answer all questions, or your application may be rejected.

  3. Attend an in-person interview April 30, May 1, or May 2 at The View Teen Center. You will receive an email with interview information once you have completed Steps 1 and 2. The interview is not meant to be intimidating, but rather provide an opportunity to practice interviewing and confirm your availability and commitment to the program.

  4. Attend the mandatory training on Saturday, June 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The View Teen Center. Training is required to participate in the Junior Leaders program. There are no make-up training dates available. Past participants of the Junior Leaders program may request to be excused on an as-needed basis. Please email TheViewTeenCenter@mountainview.gov to complete this request.

  5. Review your assigned volunteer date(s). You will receive an email on Friday, May 17 with your assigned volunteer date(s). They will also be added to your online profile. No changes to you volunteer dates will be allowed after June 8, 2024.
