Opportunity Name:
Family Thrift Store Volunteers Needed

Description:

Thank you so much for your interest in volunteering with The Salvation Army at the Family Thrift Store.  The Salvation Army Thrift Store is a major source of financial assistance for the Social Services that The Salvation Army provides in Waco and surrounding areas. Volunteers play a vital role in the work that we do.  The funds raised by the Family Store helps with our Men's Homeless Shelter, the Family & Women and Children Shelter, our Community Kitchen that feeds the hungry 365 days of the year, a Food Pantry, Veteran's programs, programs for paths out of homelessness and so much more.

Signing up here allows you to volunteer at The Salvation Army Waco THRIFT STORE for any day, Monday through Saturday, any hours from 9:00am - 4:30pm. The location of The Salvation Army Thrift Store is 4721 W. Waco Drive, in Waco, Texas.

Please review these details before arrival:

  • AGE: Volunteers must be 18 years old to be unattended.  16 years old with adult supervision.  Special considerations will be applied to large groups and school groups. Please call 254.756.7271 if you have a large group you would like to have volunteer.
  • PARKING: Please park a bit further back in the parking lot to allow our patrons the most available parking, we have many disabled patrons and people who would appreciate the closer parking.
  • CHECK-IN:  Upon arrival, please check in with the cashier where you will sign-in and out in a 'volunteer binder' each time you volunteer and create/wear a name tag and sign a waiver.
  • HOW TO START WORK:  Once you are checked in, the cashier should send you to the store manager for the day and they will let you know what tasks you will have for the day.   If you need accommodation, please let us know when you arrive.
  • DRESS: Closed shoes/sneakers. Long pants or knee-length shorts. Please no athletic wear such as leggings or sweats. We do have a dress code, as it is a business and you may be on our sales floor, so no "Holey Jeans" or too short shorts, girls, and guys!  It could be a dusty job, so we do expect you to dress comfortably.
  • TASKS:  Tasks may include sorting and unpacking items in the back room, helping organize on the floor, unloading donations from cars as they pull up outside, or general tasks like cleaning/dusting.
  • PRECAUTIONS: The choice is yours to wear or not wear a mask while volunteering. If you are at high-risk for illness or are currently sick or been exposed to the Flu or Covid-19, please do not volunteer at this time for your safety and the added protection of others.
  • SHOPPING:  You’re welcome to shop after your shift from items on the sales floor. Do not shop from the warehouse.
  • HOUSEKEEPING:  Feel free to bring lunch or snacks. We have a break room, refrigerator, soda machine and water on the premises.

Our thrift store is a way to recycle goods, and help people rescue their budget - and it helps rebuild lives for people in crisis because the proceeds from sales help fund services like our community kitchen, emergency shelters, rehousing of the homeless, and preventing homelessness by helping with emergency rent and utility payments. We also give away items such as furniture to people who we are helping to rehouse after homelessness or to those affected by a disaster. People who live in poverty or are homeless can also receive free clothing or other items free of charge.

We can do this because of a generous community of volunteers and donors. Thank you for giving your time in service to others.
