Description:

Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources is seeking individuals interested in volunteering for the Fred Fletcher Garden Volunteer Program.

 

Fred Fletcher park is a 22-acre public garden. It is the former campus of the Methodist Home for Children and was purchased by the City in 1982.

 

Duties and Impact:

We are seeking volunteers to assist with general horticultural maintenance. Volunteers will attend on-site training, lead by Parks staff, outlining the basics of landscape gardening - including weeding, pruning, and planting. Volunteer workdays will occur on Fridays from 8 a.m. - 11:30 or  9 a.m. - 11:30 based on staff's availability and the season. Be a part of the team that keeps this park beautiful! This is a year round program, the work never ends.

 

Work Environment:

Volunteers will be working outside in the elements. There is the possibility for uneven ground. There will be a restroom on site.

 

Requirements:

  • Ages 18+
  • Up-to-date release form
  • Application
  • Cleared background check
  • Attend orientation in March
  • Signed Agreement between volunteer and Raleigh Parks
  • In-person orientation and training
  • Weekly participation

Per department policy this event cannot count towards court-appointed or suggested community service hours.
