Description:

YWCA Children’s After School Program at Willows in South Seattle works with children between the ages of 5-12 years of age to provide them the support and encouragement they need to succeed in school.  Children’s After School Homework Helpers assist with supervising school age children and helping them with their homework during the After School Club, which runs from 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday.  Empower children and help them grow academically and socially!

 

You will:

  • Provide homework help for school age children ranging in age from 5-17 years.
  • Promote important lessons to the children about following directions, the value of education, attainability of academic success, and effective communication to all the children living at the shelter and in the YWCA’s transitional housing programs.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Cultural competency a must
  • Experience working with or tutoring children
  • Ability to give clear directions
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Clear sense of boundaries
  • Engaging and outgoing personality
  • Patience
  • Ability to explain concepts using multiple methods and offer encouragement
  • Skills and knowledge in reading, writing, math or science
  • Minimum of one weekly commitment during a 1 hour time slot, 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. for a minimum of 3 months.  Availability for more than one afternoon a week is welcomed.
