Adapted Sports Coach

In cooperation with Palm Beach County Therapeutic Recreation, the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department is seeking enthusiastic and reliable volunteers to provide coaching and conditioning for adaptive sports programs such as wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, wheelchair lacrosse, wheelchair tennis, handcycling, goalball, boccia and other adapted sports. 

 

Adapted Sports coaches support, coach, and train athletes in the correct way to play adapted sports. These professionals require excellent skills in working with and coaching people, knowledge of specific sport rules, and other technical aspects of the game. Coaches should have the ability to improve the overall team skill set by adapting both the physical skills and coaching approaches to fit the unique needs of each individual athlete. Coaches should formulate training plans, act as mentors, promote fair play, resolve team issues, monitor each athlete's performance, gain an understanding of the unique needs of each athlete, coordinate and prepare the team for competition.
