Project Description:

Citizen Science: help us record butterflies and bumblebees and on the National Cycle Network!

Are you passionate about the National Cycle Network and looking for a flexible opportunity to monitor biodiversity?

We're currently seeking volunteers to help us capture records of the wildlife that can be spotted along the National Cycle Network in Scotland.

By telling us about the wildlife you see using our iRecord form, you will be providing us with vital information that we can use to promote the National Cycle Network to potential users and tourists. You will also be feeding into national sources of data that can be used by planners, developers and researchers to ensure that wildlife is protected.

How does the iRecord work?

Through iRecord, automatic checks will be carried out on the observations you record to help spot potential errors and experts can review your sightings.

All wildlife sightings for non-sensitive species are shared with other users and will be made available to National Recording Schemes, Local Record Centres and Vice County Recorders (VCRs).

How do I record what I see?

Take a walk or cycle along the Network and record birds or insects flying over the route, mammals running across, or plants that you find up to any boundary fence or wall.

To send us your wildlife records, please simply enter your record through the online form.

Not sure where the National Cycle Network is in the Cairngorms? Use this online map to find out.

If you would prefer to start an iRecord account to keep a record of your sightings or record via the smart phone app, or if you have any other questions please contact Laura White using the details below.
