Description:
Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife/ Marine Mammal Investigations is seeking volunteers to working with stranded marine mammals as part of a Prescott Marine Mammal Stranding Grant.
Duties: Assist with live and dead stranding marine mammal response primarily with in South Puget Sound and Hood Canal area but may include other sites throughout western Washington. Assist with necropsies and sample collection on dead marine mammals. Beach walks/drives to collect and identify stranded marine mammals. Data entry into Excel/ or Access, completing Level A data forms. Must have attended an NW Marine Mammal Stranding Response Training with in the last two years to be eligible.
It is open to all applicants 18 years of age or older, with an avid interest in marine biology, zoology, general biology, veterinary medicine or a related field.
Applicants should demonstrate excellent communication skills and have practical computer knowledge with programs such as Word, Access, and Excel. This position involves a fair amount of physical activity, such as: lifting over 60 lbs, restraining and moving animals and other physical tasks.
