Green Cay Nature Center

Project Description:

Green Cay Nature Center is the county's newest nature center that overlooks 100 acres of constructed wetland and provides educational opportunities about this unique habitat. The wetland features 1.5 miles of elevated boardwalk featuring interpretive signs about the habitat. The Nature Center includes a lecture hall, gift shop, and live animals in an extensive exhibit room that highlights wetland attributes.

There is a wide array of tasks that the volunteers can take on when working at Green Cay. Volunteers are the face of Green Cay by manning the front desk and greeting everyone that walks in. Patrons may need assistance at the front desk with questions about the facility or the surrounding area, or help identifying a bird they saw on the trails. Volunteers may also choose to help with animal care as needed throughout the week. Volunteers are the backbone of running the gift shop for the patrons, as well as leading boardwalk tours for children and adults and maintaining the butterfly garden.
